Happy December to everyone!

During this first weekend of December, on the 5th, Be the Star You Are! will be holding a Festival of Lights!

The Festival of Lights will go from 3-5PM. There, you can write a letter to Santa, buy books or holiday gifts, and get books autographed by the contributors.

This festive event will be held at 5 A Rent a Space, 455 Moraga Road #F, Moraga, CA 94556-2208.

Be the Star You Are! will be holding a book signing event THIS SATURDAY, November 21st from 1-4 pm. GBOP is located at 3416 Blackhawk Plaza Circle, Danville CA, 94506.

Making a Difference

Happy Halloween to all! Hopefully, everyone's evening was fun and safe. :)

Our new book, Be the Star You Are! for Teens, has been released for over a month already. The book-launch party was a great success. Cynthia and the contributors are now trying to promote the book, now available in stores (Barnes and Noble in Walnut Creek carries it) and libraries. Please check your local book stores and ask them to carry it!

As of now, Cynthia and the Bay Area teen contributors will be attending two book signing events:

Be the Star You Are! Charity's newest book: Be the Star You Are! for Teens releases in two days on September 9, 2009! (09/09/09)

15 days (-2) = 13!

...and you know what that means! We have exactly 15 more days until the big event: The Books and Bands Bash on Sepetmber 13th! These last few weeks have been filled with a lot of emailing, planning, and hard work, so we hope you all come out to join us!

A couple updates and accomplisments:

We are a new partnership as of today with the Moraga Education Foundation which helps support local schools. For all new ticket sales beginning on Monday, buyers can write MEF on their check or paypal purchase and 5% of the ticket price will be given to MEF.

Be the Star You Are! Charity appears in both Lamorinda Weekly and Diablo Magazine print and online editions this week. Also in Lamorinda Weekly is a story about our teen contributors [for Be the Star You Are! for Teens; out 09/09/09].

Busy Last Few Weeks

The Books and Bands Bash is coming quickly! There were many updates and plans from last meeting on the 5th.



First:

The website for our upcoming book (to be released on 09/09/09) is UP and LIVE! http://www.bethestaryouare.com/ Please check it out and, of course, order it. It's by Cynthia Brian with 38 contributers, including local teens. All proceeds will benefit Be the Star You Are! Charity.



Second:

We have a new, up-to-date flyer for our upcoming event!

"Be the Star You Are!®, a local literacy charity, is celebrating its 10th anniversary with the launch
of a new book, Be the Star You Are!® for TEENS and a dance party, all organized by local teens.

Party features include dancing to bands: Old Hyde Farm, Uncalled 4, The Underground Weather, The Not So Radicals, and 13 book contributors autographing the new book!

Date/Time: Sunday, September 13, 2009 4:00- 9:00pm
Price: $13 in advance, $20 at the door for standing/dancing, Reserved VIP Tables for 10 $713

Be the Star You Are! will be holding another meeting on Wednesday August 5th starting at 6:00PM. This is a very important meeting. We need updates from everyone and have to begin the final planning stage.
We are SO close to the event; now's the last chance for contacting and spreading the word. Please, please help us!

White t-shirts and black tank tops have been ordered with the newest logo designed by Hilary. They will sell for $13 for t-shirts and $15 for tanks at the event. We can pre-sell them as well as we don't have that many since we had no sponsor for these.

A Memorial

A Tribute to a Great Man and Advocate for Women, Families, and Youth
In memory of Father Patrick McGrath of Ireland.
Father Pat McGrath was not only a friend to Be the Star You Are!®, he was a champion for women, families, and youth. His middle name was "Celebration" as he lived life to the fullest and encouraged everyone he encountered to live in the moment. To honor this mentor who helped so many lead better lives, we have created a memorial fund in his name to donate books to youth.

An Award!

Be The Star You Are! For Teens has been selected as one of the top 50 books for teens and tweens by Radical Parenting and a teen review committee. The manuscript was submitted and it won a Best Parenting Book nomination too.

Our upcoming event, the Books and Bands Bash, on September 13, is coming quickly and planning is going well.

An update from BTSYA

A meeting for Be the Star You Are was held today in Moraga; more info was gathered and updates were given on the upcoming event: Books and Band Bash on September 13, 2009!
There actually will not be 13 bands; Cynthia was notified about the chaos that would ensue if 13 bands were present at the event. So, Ellyse (our band coordinator) decided to narrow the band number down to 4 (1+3=4).
The event will be held inside and outside; bands will perform inside the venue while vendors will have tables set up outside.
Also at the event, Be the Star You Are will be selling t-shirts designed specifically for the charity, so please stop by!

BOOKS AND BANDS BASH
10th Anniversary Celebration and Book Launch!
September marks the 10th anniversary of the founding of Be the Star You Are! charity. To celebrate, our youth volunteers are organizing a book signing and dance party to launch our new book, Be the Star You Are! for Teens with a BOOKS AND BANDS BASH. Yes, it will be a battle of the bands with thirteen bands, thirteen sets, thirteen raffle items, and hopefully thirteen book contributors autographing the new book. And the price, you guessed it $13 in advance. The date is Sunday, September 13 from 4pm-9pm. Food, mocktails, raffles, live music, dancing, autograph sessions, book sales, celebrities, and lots of fun.
