One Page at a Time... [a short piece on Be the Star You Are! Charity]
So, the stage is set for a fresh take on this New Year, beginning with the birth of spring..
Off with the Negativity in life and let the Positivity come on in!!
This proved to be a more daunting task strangely enough.
In today’s life and living, we are so bombarded constantly and consistently with the ranting and ravings of negativity in all of its glory that there does not really seem to be room to seek a smidgen of Positivity, that glimmer of the Good out there.
So, I began with a simple quest of seeking to share myself in some way, somewhere and went to the Source of All Knowledge.......the World Wide Web!!
I typed in “Volunteer Opportunity” and came across the organization, VolunteerMatch.org. This organization has worked very hard to spread its reach over all sorts of media...web searches, magazines, newspapers, press releases etc, etc. An exceptionally well laid out website, it has ample avenues for someone to seek to join an organization and share of one’s time and talent. Drawn to Women’s and Children’s causes, I sought out organizations that were working along those lines.
I found one that intrigued me simply by its name...Be The Star You Are!® 501 c3.
The organization has its foundation in Literacy, Children, and Youth.
So, I found myself sending out a short reach out message to the organizer team outlining who I am and what my strengths are as well. Lo and behold…I get a prompt response back from the team wanting to set up a time to connect and share more.
Now, I find myself researching this organization and being lead to a zillion links online and all ending back at this human dynamo of Positivity, Cynthia Brian!!!
"How many hours are in YOUR day?”, I find myself asking, breathlessly, just blown away by just how many things are going on with this powerhouse of a lady. Warm and sunny, the answer comes back with a pat, " I am passionate about my life, about what I do and about reaching out and sharing much that is good and great in the world...that keeps me going, I guess", says Cynthia.
"The youth are our future and we need to make sure that they get the message that the world is a good place, that all news out there is not all bad, that there is so much good happening that never makes it to the pages to the newspaper, the evening news or the latest Tweet…but, it is out there and…it is within each young life."
Authoring a small treatise in Positive thinking for the new generation, Cynthia authored the book, "Be The Star You Are!® for TEENS", the pages offering up small, short stories co-written by teens that highlight the good and the positive in their world.
Cynthia is often asked why she founded the charity.
While working on her radio show interviewing authors, Cynthia realized that in the Publishing and Book world, there are so many countless books that are published and then, after a certain period of time and/or lack of sales, get relegated to being destroyed, burned, or dumped in the landfill!! A lot of publications are based on passions such as history, arts, cookery, food, gardening, mind and body, esoteric sciences and other such. Each of these books with their authors and collaborators had their brief moment in the sun and now, these books were no longer going to command the market. Stores needed to make room for the New coming in. In her quest to save trees while empowering others, Cynthia immediately envisaged a literacy charity, one that could serve as a conduit for eager minds and the publishers of these books. Since 1999, Be the Star You Are!® 501 c3 literacy and positive media charity has served approximately 209,800 individuals and families within 70 organizations and has logged more than 229,880 volunteer hours, while distributing over $1.6 million in resources., impacting the intellect positively, one page at a time!
